What is a better year round commuter?

Or is there another bike that would be better?

It's for a college student going to Boston or New York.

  1. They both are very good commuters. If you go to Boston, get the San Jose. New York, IRO. Not sure if you know but IRO is made in N.Y. Nice bike. Should handle those roads easily.

  2. It depends on where you go. I would choose something more hip. Either Look for an older bike, like an 80's Italian or Japanese bike: one of these bikes converted to a single speed is way cooler than a new bike. If you go to New York you're going to loose A LOT of bikes, so I would say to buy cheap ones. The hipsters ride older bikes or if you have to have a new bike check out the Surly steam roller:

I think they have more "street cred."
