  1. Intelligent people have no problem following the Bible.

  2. The original Hebrew is actually better translated, as thou shalt not murder, which is not the same as an eye for an eye.  Plus the eye for an eye code was put in place by God to make sure that people were exacting proper payment and not overpunishing.

  3. Last time i Checked life is full of contradictions, you need to use the bible to help you choose the path that is right for you.

Besides, one refers to law and justice and the other refers to killing others for the sake of killing, two concepts that wouldn't have been related in ancient societies

  4. It definitely is, but only if you consider the book as a homogenous whole. It is the work of multiple hands.

  5. The bible is nothing more than a piece of S.H.I.T. book.

  6. The original translation is "Thou shalt not murder". One important lesson to keep in mind when you read the Bible is to understand the context in which it was written. You must understand everything that was going on at the time the verse was written. Who was saying it, who where they talking to, why did they say it. The Bible is complex and can never fully be understood no matter how many times you read it. It is a life long learning tool. It is the greatest book ever written. I use to feel like you when I was younger. Keep studying, it will reveal itself to you over time.

  7. Eye for an EYE does not imply murder for murder it implies if you steal 100 bucks you pay it back and LOSE 100 bucks as well. It is recommended punishment for crimes.

  8. you wont die if your eye is lost.  so an Eye for an Eye is not the same as killing

  9. Have you ever played the game where you sit in a circle and whisper a story from one person to the next?  The bible is an example of that type of documentation and then it was translated from another language-sorry, but anyone who thinks the bible is accurate surely isn't very logical.

  10. The bible is a nice set of parables and tales to make people think about issues like morality and justice, but as far as a religious tome goes, it's pretty nonsensical, fragmented, and inconsistent.

The fact that billions of people follow this book wholeheartedly and believe that it's the word of god is disheartening to me.  If the bible is the word of god, then god needs to take some Paxil.

  11. There are loads of contradictory things in the bible, but on that one about killing it depends on the exact wording.

If it says thou shalt not commit murder then eye for an eye then it can mean murder=unjustified killing, whereas kill is justified in some cases.

It just depends on wording and personal definition.

The bible is full of contradictories and hypocrocies tho.

Take for example Jesus. He was supposed to be perfect and always faithfull and believing of God, yet on the cross he asked God "Father Why hast thou forsaken me " Meaning Jesus believed God forgot about him. That also shows contradiction because it proves Jesus was not as faithfull as people try to make us believe.

  12. Thou shalt not kill is for people who are s****t and psychotic. An eye for an eye is for people who are s****t to you and who does not have moral values. Doing back to them may show them how others may feel but again some will not learn and become even more s****t.. other part of the bible will tell you do unto others what you wish others to do unto you.

  13. The translations are

    1) 'Thou shalt not commit MURDER' not kill.......a couple of verses later it calls for the death penalty.

    2) An eyes WORTH for an eye, so the person who loses the eye gets compensated monetarily.

  14. They way I read it, everybody with a pencil and an agenda, grabbed a chapter. It seemed to work fairly well "till King James grabbed the whole thing.

  15. Yes, but it causes one to explore and discuss such moral issues so it's not all bad.
