  1. I have collected coins since I was 12 years old and at 62 I sold my collection for about 1/4 th of what I thought it should have been worth!

    Point is, when you buy coins you are paying about a 40-60% markup on what you could turn right around and get if you tried to sell them back to the dealer.

    You are better off investing that money in an IRA and that will be worth far more than any appreciation on the proof coins.  Look at gold.  It has doubled in value (allowing for inflation) in the last 40 years while stocks and mutual funds have increased 8 fold over the same period.
