Bicycle riding at 24 mph for 20 miles?

I am a 15 year old girl who has been riding for 2 years,

I ride with the local club and go on the ride that has a cruising speed of 24 mph and sprints that go to 28

I tried posting this before but no one gave me an opinion just questioned whether or not I know how fast I am actually going. And I can tell you for a fact I do.

So basically I wanted to know if this was "good" for my age (24mph for 20 miles)

  1. "...no one gave me an opinion just questioned whether or not I know how fast I am actually going..." -- Because I read your question saying that you're averaging 24 mph finishing a 20 mile ride in 50 minutes.

"..."good" for my age (24mph for 20 miles)...?" -- while not world class like a tour de france Pro, this is a fast pace for many amateur racers.

Whats the average speed on a flat strip in Pro bicycle racing?

  2. I still have my doubts as to the accuracy of your claim. that's a pretty quick pace to maintain for a full 20 miles. if you're really doing that, that's great for any age. you should try some races. I still think you need to get a computer which is properly calibrated, and double check your numbers. please feel free to thumbs down my answer again, or delete your question again..

  3. It's not good it's excellent. At 15, female and riding only 2 years you should seriously consider racing right now. I'm not sure why you ask this here as anyone you ride with would be freaking out how fast you are. I'm surprised you haven't started racing already, you'd win most any local junior class easily. I'd guess you're riding with a lot of racers now as usually only the competitive cyclists can ride at that speed.

In the clubs I road with A rides were 20-22 mph and only team training rides were faster. The only club around me that ever had rides approaching 26 average speed were the Wolverines which put numerous riders in the Olympics and professional cycling. Frankie Andreu being the most famous Wolverine road cyclist.

  4. It's darn good.

Tour de France riders are in the 30's but we are normal humans.

The average commuter averages 10-12 mph.

I'm no slouch and I can only maintain 25 mph for any stretch of time on flat roads, little wind and/or a big peloton around me.

So that's awesome - yes sounds like you should continue your passion for cycling with confidence that you are at least in the ball game!

  5. "cruising" at 24mph...hmmm, ok....

You might have your cycle computer set for 26" tyres...

  6. yes. that is good. very good
