  1. My average speed is 15-20mph (depends on slopes, hills, traffic, and road conditions) on a hybrid.

  2. depends on the bike--  if its a road bike with road bike tires, anywhere from 12 to 20 MPH.  a mountain bike with fat tires - 8MPH.  also depends on your physical shape and if your a fatty.  hard to give you a good answer for this one

  3. This is a hard one to give an accurate answer to, but in real general terms. A casual weekend rider or one who rides less than two hours a week, normally will average 8~16mph on the road, off-road 5~7mph. A lot of it depends on your overall conditioning.

  4. A moderate speed on a bike is 12-15 mph. Unless they're unfit anyone should be able to maintain that speed without any great exertion.

  5. It depends on the bike and your ability.  When I ride my mtn bike on a flat trail I can coast around 10 MPH (26" tires), on the same trail on my hybrid I can coast around 12 MPH (700cm), and on the road bike I can coast around 14 MPH (700cm).  get a cheap computer it will help you keep up with your averages.

  6. depending on the style of bike about 18mph depending on the grade and road conditions

  7. Normally I average about 15-16mph, and pushing hard might net me 18-19mph.  On a rare flat portion I can keep a 20-25mph pace without too much problem.

Now before you flatlanders start bragging, keep in mind that I LIVE at 5800' above sea level in the Colorado foothills.  There are NO flat places to ride, and a Colorado century is very different than, say, an Iowa century!

  8. You can go at least 5mph more than your briskly walk.

  9. I like to ride my bike to work on these nice summer days.  My ride is 8 miles, mostly flat terrain, some slight inclines, all road on my 21 speed mountain bike with  26x2 tires.  My average speed is 15mph.

  10. Somebody who is out of shape or overweight should be able to maintain at least 10 mph on paved roads on a bike unless it has knobbies.  Using a really heavy cruiser style bike will probably lose 2mph.  Someone in reasonable health w/o any medical issues should be able to maintain 12 to 15mph on pavement for a fairly long time.  I think discomfort would overcome you before fatigue if you are not accustomed to riding.
