  1. I don't know about a racing bike at that cost but

the BEHEMOTH (Big Electronic Human-Energized Machine ...Only Too Heavy) cost 1.2 million.

    Check out http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=...

    http://microship.com/bike/index.html

  2. http://rtv.rtrlondon.co.uk/2008-06-03/25...

Appearantly, the 1 million includes R&D and if it's only priced that way for 1 bike then it's possible to cost that much.

Because the R&D costs are spread over the sale of all the bikes worldwide for eg. the bikes used for TdF then it'll be of course much cheaper.

It does say at the end of the article that the mass produce version of this 1 million dollars bike will only cost about 10k euros.

  3. A million dollars for a bicycle?  Doesn't make sense, frankly..

Even in the 2,000-mile Tour de France (which is far more demanding than Olympic cycling) the most expensive bike might cost around $15,000.  You can buy the same model Trek Madone that Lance Armstrong used in the Tour de France in your local bike shop for around $8,000 (if they carry Trek).  http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/200...

An exceptional athlete on an $8,000 bike can do it.

  4. American Bicycle Corporation built a frame from beryllium sheet that was valued at $300,000.00. It was stolen out of their truck while setting up for a show.

Thats the most expensive one that I know offhand.
