Bicycles for hills? anyone? down and up?

ok after doing so much research i still do not know which bike will help me with steep hills? is there such thing? thanks! any advice would be greatly appreciated. :-)

steep? I believe its called walking your bike up the hill. but if thats not it try one with a lot of gears.

Hills?  Hum...

Hills are all about weight.  The more weight you must move up a hill, the harder it is.  Thus, if you are riding in a hilly area, the best advice is to get the lightest bike possible.

Shedding grams should be sensibly done, though.  In general, a reduction of one gram of rotational mass is comparable to a reduction of three grams of fixed mass.  Thus, it is better to reduce rotational weight than fixed weight.  So, if you have a choice of two bikes that weight about the same, but one has lighter wheels, go for the one with the lighter wheels and keep them shod with lightweight tires and tubes.

If you are riding trails, you must also make a choice between weight and comfort, traction and handling.  In general, a good quality, full suspension mountain bike weighs more than a hardtail mountain bike.  The ease of riding a full suspension bike may very well make up for the additional weight you've got to push up hills.

Anyhow, there is an old bicycling industry adage: "lightweight, strong, cheap: pick two."  Unless you are made of money, there is very practical limit to how light a bike can be.  Also, once you get beyond a certain point reliability begins to suffer.  The key is finding the balance between weight and affordability.  

Finally, keep in mind, for most of us, it is much easier to shed pounds off our body than grams off the bike.

I would try to stay away from full suspension and get a very light hardtail with lockout forks, or just about any road bike i guess cause there very light. either should have plenty of gears.  I hope i helped.
