Why do people riding bicycles insist on riding on the road when their is a bike lane? That is a good way to get yourself run over and p**s off the other drivers around you!

  1. I don't know, but it pisses me the **** off! There is a REASON there's a sidewalk. And if you don't want to ride on the sidewalk, ride next to the curb, not in the middle of the goddamn street!!!

  2. Yeah, it's usually the big time racing bikers too...  w/ the whole bicycle gear on... spandex and all...  they feel like they own the road!  Get over for crying out loud, right!?  There is a lane JUST FOR YOU!  Use it!

    Drives me nuts too!

  3. Cyclists pay the same taxes to pave the roads that motor vehicle drivers do, so cyclists have just as much claim to the road.  There are traffic rules that cyclists have to follow, just like motorists.  It's great that there are bike lanes, but they're often in worse shape than the road itself.  As for hugging the curb, that's often where the road is at it's worst and most dangerous.

Just go around the cyclist - it won't take long and you'll both get to your destinations safely.  He has to sit in just as much traffic as you do, he has the same deadlines you do, so cut him some slack.

  4. I'm not sure you can see the surface of the bike lane from the driver's seat of your car... but I can when I'm on a bike.

It's not a pretty sight.  Every time one of you smashes into another vehicle you leave behind glass and shredded car parts.  These are often swept into the bike lane.

When you need traction during icy conditions your local public works puts a ton of gravel and salt on the roads so you can safely and comfortably drive to work.  When the ice melts this stuff is often swept into the bike lane.

After you drive to your favorite bar or sneak some booze into a theater - as you're walking out your boyfriend throws a bottle in the street.  More glass swept into the bike lane.

The jerk ahead of you just threw all his trash out the window... that's going into the bike lane.

Oh what's this? One of your fellow drivers has decided to park in the bike lane.  I suppose I should stop and just wait until the more important people are done with whatever they are doing.

After all it's your road right?  I am just an annoying conveyance allowed to use the roadway because some radical environmentalists - you know those folks hiding in the woods with berets ready to jump out at you if you litter - insisted on it, right?

Actually no.  You need a license - I don't.  Why?  Because when autos first appeared the roads were designed for other uses - horses, yes bicycles, pedestrians, mules, etc.  In fact National law today still specifies the intent of the roadway as primarily for other activities - motor vehicles must be licensed to use the road - and MUST share with the modes of transportation that have been using the road long before you existed.

If you hit a pedestrian - no matter what - if you could have avoided it you are at fault.  Did you know that?  Well that guy in his truck who thinks he's sending a message by speeding up when I'm crossing the street sure doesn't act like it.

Sorry for the rant, but please give us a break!  We're one less car for you to sit behind during your commute.  Be nice and thankful - we're out here breathing your exhaust -- and 2 seconds of your time can be your way of saying thanks.

But I simply don't want to get a flat tire every other ride!

Finally, why are you in such a hurry?

  5. I guess they just don't care that it inconveniences people in cars. It really is annoying though.

  6. just look at a bicycle as another vechile on the road

they are suppose to obey traffic rules and can and do get cited

for violating the rules (like running a red light)

    or even speeding
