Bidding starts for 2015 CEV Men’s Volleyball Championship – Volleyball news
Recently, Italy and Bulgaria joined hands to announce their bid to host the 2015 CEV Men’s Volleyball Championship.
The presidents of both national federations had a meeting in Sofia, Bulgaria on Friday, May 11. The President of Italian Volleyball Federation (FIPAV) Carlo Magri arrived in Bulgaria to support the national team in crucial Olympic qualifying match, which
took place at Arena Armeec competition hall on Friday. Italian team played brilliantly and secured the semi-final spot by defeating Slovakia.
The match was followed by the official press conference, where Magri signed the cooperation agreement with Bulgaria Volleyball Federation, in order to organise the 2015 CEV Men’s Volleyball Championship. Italian President was joined by the President of the
Bulgarian volleyball federation (BFV) Dancho Lazarov at the meeting.
Both countries officially disclosed their joint contention to play host to the mega event of European Volleyball Federation in 2015.
FIPAV President shared his views in the following manner. He stated, “It gives me great pleasure that we have laid the foundations for joint collaboration with our Bulgarian colleagues and I can assure you of our good intentions before the start of the initiative. Next
to the joint bid for the 2015 European Championship, we are going to further cooperate on technical, organizational, political and even commercial issues. I hope that the two national teams will meet in the final on Sunday and may the best one win.”
Austria and Czech Republic successfully hosted the previous edition of the European Volleyball Championship in 2011. The next edition of the biennial event is scheduled to be hosted by Poland and Denmark in 2013. Furthermore, Bulgaria and Italy have showed
interest to the jointly organise the event in 2015.
If the bid is approved by the Confederation European de Volleyball (CEV), Italy will host two of the preliminary pools. According to the plan, two major Italian cities Roma and Palermo will set up the field of the play. Likewise, the other two pools and
final round of the tournament will be hosted by Bulgaria City Sofia. The Arena Armeec competition hall will provide the backdrop for the matches.
