Bilbao could not manage to register their first UEFA Europa League Group I win and their coach, Bielsa was not able to come up with any reasons for the defeat at the San Mames.
The Argentine tactician tried to explain what went down and said that sometimes you just can’t explain how things have turned out.
“At some point you have to look at why a team does not sometimes get what it deserves and it’s something I can’t explain.”
Bielsa admitted that it was painful to lose but that losing undeservedly is even worse. He also defended his team and stated that they played in an organized way.
“Defeats always get you down but when they are undeserved it is even sadder.”
The 57-year-old also explained the details of the game. He mentioned the fact that his team created several chances and had most of the possession. Regardless, he admitted that it is the results that matter the most and despite
their good performance it will not become an excuse for the defeat.
“Overall we made plenty of goal opportunities and had a lot of the ball but these excuses, when compared with the result, lose their worth.”
The under-fire boss was quick to suggest that the only way to turn around their miserable form was to analyse the situation and learn from their mistakes so that they don’t become a recurring theme.
“The only thing to do is analyse what went wrong and work to correct things so they don’t happen again.”
Meanwhile, the fans of the club booed Bielsa when he decided to substitute http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Iker-Muniain-c16816 for Ismael.
“I can’t say whether the supporters were right and I was wrong, although I can’t say I’m infallible in my decisions.”
At the moment Athletic Bilbao are a shadow of the team that took everyone by surprise last season. The atmosphere is tense and things are just not going on their side.
