Big 10 week three: Preview
After two weeks of play there are still seven teams in the Big 10 that are undefeated in 2010.
Massachusetts vs. #20 Michigan
UMass will come over from the CAA to face-off against a 20th ranked Michigan side. Mass is currently 2-0, but will have to play the game of a lifetime to contend with an unbeaten Michigan club. The Wolverines celebrated a four-point victory over
Notre Dame on the weekend and will use UMass as a warm up for their week five engagement with Indiana.
Ohio vs. #2 Ohio State
The number two ranked Ohio State should have no trouble at home against Ohio this weekend. Coming off a win over the then 12th ranked Hurricanes, State should welcome an easy week three and four before they play Illinois.
Kent State vs. #22 Penn State
Kent State are coming off a loss at the hands of Boston College and will be looking to take advantage of a 1-1 Penn State side reeling from a loss to number one Alabama last week. However, the Nittany Lions will come to play as they attempt to get their
record back up over .500.
North Illinois vs. Illinois
Northern Illinois is celebrating a win over North Dakota in week two, but will have their hands full with Illinois this weekend. The Illini suffered a loss to Missouri in week one, but managed to get back on track in a game against Southern Illinois in week
two. Illinois will be using their game against North as a warm-up for Ohio State in week five.
Ball State vs. Purdue
Purdue will be interested in getting out of the Big 10 basement with a win over Ball State on the weekend. State is coming off a loss to Liberty and should not pose a threat on the road at the Boilermakers on Saturday.
#18 USC vs. Minnesota
Minnesota should have a tough time at home against USC this weekend. The Golden Gophers are coming off a loss to South Dakota and will face a much tougher opponent in the Trojans in week three. USC spent week one dominating Hawaii, but had some difficulty
in week two only beating Virginia by three points.
Arizona State vs. #11 Wisconsin
State enters the game against Wisconsin with a perfect 2-0 record, having beat-up on Portland State and Northern Arizona in their first two weeks. The Sun Devils will present the first real challenge of the season to the 11th ranked Badgers, who
demolished UNLV in their opening game and defeated San Jose State in week two.
Indiana vs. Western Kentucky
Indiana will hope to improve to 2-0 against a win-less Western Kentucky side. The Hilltoppers have suffered massive losses to Nebraska and Kentucky so far this season and can expect more of the same from the Hoosiers on Saturday.
North Western vs. Rice
Northwestern owns a 2-0 record, but have yet to be challenged this season. At 1-1 with a win over Northern Texas and a loss to Texas, Rice should be able to topple the Wildcats at home in Rice Stadium.
Notre Dame vs. Michigan State
At 1-1 Notre Dame presents a real threat to break State’s perfect record. The Fighting Irish are coming off a tough four-point loss to Michigan last week and will be looking to rebound against the Spartans.
#9 Iowa vs. #24 Arizona
Both Arizona and Iowa have perfect records this season and sit at the top of their respective conferences. The Hawkeyes are favoured in the match-up and will look to unload a 25th ranked running game on the Wildcats. Nevertheless, Arizona should
present a stiff challenge and are likely to rocket up the rankings with a win.
