Big 12 week three: Preview
The third week of play in the big 12 features several exciting match-ups as the teams battle for top spot in one of football’s most competitive conferences.
Iowa State vs. Kansas State
Iowa State currently sits at 1-1 after suffering a loss at the hands of number nine-ranked University of Iowa last week. State will have a chance to get back on track in their first conference match-up of the season this weekend.
Kansas State currently sits at the top of the Big 12 standings with two wins, after defeating UCLA and Missouri State in their opening two matches. Kansas has been running the ball well and will hope to pound the ball against Iowa on Saturday.
Hawaii vs. Colorado
Colorado is coming off a devastating loss to Cal over the weekend and will be hoping to get back on track against a 1-1 Hawaii side. The Buffaloes have not been able to put together strong offensive numbers and will need to reverse that trend this weekend.
The Warriors come over from the WAC to play Colorado, riding a week two victory over Army. Hawaii is notorious for throwing the ball and will hope to take advantage of a Colorado defence that allowed 57 points in week two.
Air Force #7 Oklahoma
Oklahoma are currently sitting 2-0, tied for first in the Big 12 South. Oklahoma should not have trouble with a 2-0 Air Force side and are likely to use the game to gear up for Cincinnati next week and Texas in week five.
Air Force are coming off a win over BYU, but will have their hands full with number seven ranked Oklahoma. Air Force has been basing their offence around their running game, but should expect to run into serious problems against a tough Oklahoma defence.
#8 Nebraska vs. Washington
Nebraska should not have trouble against Washington and will be hoping that a win on Saturday will catapult them to the top of the Big 12 North standings. Nevertheless, Nebraska will have to work hard to stay on top of their game with their first real test
not coming until week six against Texas.
Washington currently sits at 1-1 in the PAC-10 and are not expected to do a great deal of damage against the number-eight-ranked Nebraska. However, they are playing at home and just came off an exciting 11-point win over Syracuse.
Baylor vs. #4 TCU
Baylor sits at the top of the Big 12 South, however with their two wins coming against Buffalo and Sam Houston State, it is fair to say they have not yet been challenged this season. TCU will prove to be too strong an opponent for the Bears.
TCU are currently sitting at 2-0 and are ranked number four in the nation. TCU managed victories over Tennessee Tech in week two and the number-24 ranked Oregon State in week one. Baylor should not pose a real threat, as they get ready for Wyoming in week six.
San Diego State vs. Missouri
San Diego Sate currently sits at 2-0 and will be in search of an upset when they travel to Missouri on the weekend.
Missouri continues to have an easy schedule until week seven when they are at home to Oklahoma and then go on the road to Nebraska. If Mizzo wants to challenge for a BCS spot they will have to play perfect football up to week seven.
Tulsa vs. Oklahoma State
Tulsa comes over from C-USA at 1-1 to go up against a strong Oklahoma State side. If Tulsa hopes to complete the upset they will need to get their offensive game on track.
Oklahoma State has yet to face a real challenge this season, displaying their offensive prowess against Washington State in the first week and Troy in the second. Tulsa should be another easy opponent for a dynamic Cowboys offence.
FIU vs. Texas A&M
Texas A&M should be able to breeze past a 0-1 Florida International over the weekend. Sitting at 2-0 Texas will be playing their third straight game at home. After wins over Stephen F. Austin and Louisiana Tech, Florida should be a nice break for the Aggies.
#6 Texas vs. Texas Tech
Texas and Texas Tech will reignite one of college football’s greatest rivalries on Saturday.
Texas goes into the match ranked sixth in the nation and heavily favoured. However, the Longhorns can never seem to fully develop their game at the loud Jones Stadium in Lubbock.
