Big Bash League Update – Matches 13 & 14
In the first clash of the New Year in the KFC Big Bash, Hobart Hurricanes continued their unbeaten run in the competition with an easy victory over
Sydney Thunder at the Bellerive Oval.
Batting first, Thunders started off strongly, courtesy of yet another half-century by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abbott-c41507 provided an able contribution while batting at no.3 but their middle and lower order again failed to compliment the top three as the visitors’
could only put a subpar 138 on the board.
The chief tormentor was http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rana-Naved-ul-Hasan-c83909, who kept his good form in the tournament intact with impressive bowling figures of 4-22-3.
In reply, the Hurricanes lost opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/OA-Shah-c2134, who remained unbeaten, ensured that the home side stayed way ahead of the chasing pack. They chased down the target inside 19
overs, losing just 5 wickets.
The next game of the league saw Melbourne Renegades battle
Sydney Sixers at the Etihad Stadium. It was another one sided affair where the Melbourne franchise registering their second consecutive win of the tournament, winning by 8 wickets.
Sixers, who opted to bat first, were dealt a blow early on when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJ-Bravo-c1379 in just the second over of the match. That was followed by a lean period for the batting side where they made 72 in the first 10
overs.
The innings was given momentum by skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SPD-Smith-c2555 (25) and Moises Henrique (41) as the pair added a crucial 63 for the 4th wicket. The final few overs also proved fruitful as Dominic Thornely’s last ball six allowed the Sixers to reach a
respectable 161.
The Renegades made easy work of their run chase thanks to commanding knocks from veteran batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-McDonald-c1042 (60*), who was also named the Player of the Match after hitting seven massive sixes.
After losing opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Glenn-Maxwell-c60189 inside the first five overs, Hodge and McDonald then shared an unbeaten stand of 124, which allowed their team to move into the top four.
