Big Bash Twenty20: Wade guides http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Victoria-c859 to a respectable total against SA
Victoria amassed a decent total against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Australia-c844 (SA) in the Big Bash Twenty20 tournament. The team scored 144 after batting first at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
Victoria captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-McDonald-c1042 won the toss and elected to bat first. The wicket seemed to be good for batting, but it was on the slower side and had some assistance for the spinners.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aaron-Finch-c881. The start wasn’t that good for Victoria as Carters was dismissed early. He struggled to score runs and only managed five runs off 14 balls.
The dismissal of Carters brought veteran batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Brad-Hodge-c1184 to the crease. Hodge rotated the strike but struggled to strike boundaries. However, Finch played his shots freely and didn’t seem to have any problems at all.
Finch was dismissed after putting together a 44-run partnership with Hodge. He scored 34 runs off 26 balls and was brilliantly caught out by Callum Ferguson at long-on.
His wicket was followed by the dismissal of Hodge, who scored a struggling 22 off 23 balls. The fall of two quick wickets saw McDonald being joined by the team’s wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Matthew-Wade-c1933.
The pair amassed a solid 48-run partnership and took the score to 114. McDonald was out after scoring 26 runs from 24 balls. He would have liked to carry-on and take his team’s total past 150 but failed to do so.
However, his wicket didn’t bother Wade at all as he continued to play freely. Wade played some splendid shots and managed to hit a few boundaries on a wicket where other batsmen struggled.
The wicketkeeper batsman was unbeaten on 52 runs off just 31 balls to guide his team to a respectable total. Wade struck three fours and four massive sixes in his half-century innings to help Victoria score 30 runs off the last 14 balls of the innings.
Spin was difficult to play and SA gave the new ball to English leg-spinner Adil http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rashid-c84058. He provided a good start to his team as he didn’t give away too many runs and took one wicket. Dan Christian took two wickets for his team but was expensive as he gave
away 41 runs in his four-over spell.
The score is well within the reach of the SA team. They have some good batsmen at the top of the order and have a strong middle-order as well with the experience of Callum Ferguson.
