Big Ben’ delayed return casts shadows on Pittsburgh Steelers hope to stop Baltimore Ravens – NFL News
Pittsburgh Steelers’ desperation for return of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger by Sunday (Dec. 02) is least likely to be fruitful because the offence leader has estimated himself a week away from recovery from a sprained shoulder and dislocated rib injuries.
Ben, who was limited in Thursday’s practice, said there is always a chance but admitted he was in pain yet and faced a number of issues in free movement of his arms.
The QB said:
"Can I put a lot of zip on the ball, throw it really hard before people like Ed Reed and defenders can get to the ball. If I can't I'm not putting us in the best situation to win the game."
He added:
"We've had people talk about last year in San Francisco, if I would have rested maybe I would have been better off the next couple games, but to me, I live for the here and now. I'm going to do everything I can to be out there and if it doesn't work then
I'll do what I can about the next week."
A couple of days earlier, Coach Mike Tomlin said he hoped Big Ben would be ready for the Baltimore Ravens’ game this Sunday. His optimism apparently was based on the limited throws the quarterback had thrown earlier in the week. With the quarterback himself
conceding he is yet far from reporting full recovery, the Steelers face daunting task of holding back the Ravens.
The team has already lost a game to the Ravens. It was their first game without Big Ben in the side and they well in line with history could not manage to stop the opponents from easily walking over them.
Even more rueful was their loss against the Cleveland Browns, who had only a single win over Steelers before the recent win. Out of the total 18 games played between them, the Steelers have won 16.
Unfortunately, the Steelers do not hold much chance of putting up some strong show without their main offence leader. They are so dependent on Ben that some commentators have criticised the managers’ indifferent attitude towards seeking a replacement and
groom him timely enough that they do not suffer if Ben is out with any problem.
