Big Bottles drinks in big victory at Crayford
Greyhound racing fans got their money’s worth Tuesday at the Crayford Greyhound Track in Crayford, Kent. A full 380m 14-race card featured some of the sport’s best competitors vying for the elusive first-place title.
Big Bottles served up a big victory with his win in the first race of the afternoon, an A8 race that was held at 14:08. Odds makers staked Big Bottles as the 2-1 favourite before the race, and he lived up to the expectations with his 24.36 finish. He held an early pace out of trap four, and led the run up to the finish line.
Buglys Maldini (4-1) picked up a second-place win in 24.50, which was 1¾ lengths behind the winner. Touchwood Hope (3-1) placed third by a head, finishing with a time of 24.51 out of trap six.
Edging out a fourth-place finish was Edge Wood (4-1), who was four lengths behind Touchwood Hope in 24.83. Bringing up the rear were Autumn Claw (6-1, fifth place) and Cleena Classic (4-1, sixth place). Autumn Claw finished the race in 24.99, which was 2 lengths behind place, while Cleena Classic was 3¼ lengths behind Autumn Claw in 25.25.
The A7 race at 14:27 saw a legendary finish from Ernies A Legend. Coming into this race, Ernies A Legend was staked a 9-4 odds as the favourite win. Sure enough, he pulled off a great victory by finishing the race with an excellent time of 23.82. When he emerged from trap five, he quickly moved away from the rest of the pack, and always led.
Mindmeheadmum (7-2) didn’t mind a second-place finish, checking in with a time of 23.92, 1¼ lengths behind the leader. Right behind Mindmeheadmum was Pretty Carmel (7-2), who placed third in this race. She was 1¾ lengths behind second place with a 24.06 finish.
The number four position was claimed by Mongys Angel (9-2) in 24.20. This placed her 1¾ lengths behind Mindmeheadmum. Lisloran Lady was anything but ladylike in fifth place. She finished the race in 24.34, 1¾ out of fourth place. Golden Oak finished in the bottom spot, ¾ lengths behind Lisloran Lady. He completed the race in 24.40.
Trap six was hot in the A5 race held at 14:47.The 9-4 favourite Lens Black Rock came out of that trap, and held an early place to take first place in this race. He led the run up to the finish line, and claimed his victory in 23.62. 2¼ lengths behind him was Duck Mulligan (3-1), whose 23.80 finish in the number two spot proved that he was no sitting duck.
Despite a badly crowded first, Ballylaw Sara (5-1) bounced back to claim third place by a neck in 23.82. Ina Spin (7-2) spun out a fourth-place finish in 24.18. Her missed break and bumped run up cost her 4½ lengths in the race to the finish.
Rounding out the six racers were Dowersperle (3-1, fifth place) and Station Lady (5-1, sixth place). Dowersperle finished 1¾ lengths behind fourth with a time of 24.32, while Station Lady’s 24.40 finish was a single length behind Dowersperle.
Greyhound racing action at the Crayford Greyhound Track resumes on Friday 3 September. The races are slated to begin at 18:15, with another exciting 14-race card.
