Big Buck’s emerges victorious from the Grade 1 World Hurdle for the fourth time in a row
Trained by champion trainer Paul Nicholls, Big Buck’s was a subject of awe in the Grade 1 Ladbrokes World Hurdle, in the Cheltenham Festival, on 15th March, 2012, which was run over three miles.
This was the nine-year-old gelding’s fourth consecutive first place victory. Nicholls was worried about his runners as he told the press that “They’d been totally out of form and I was worried, Ruby was brilliant. He had to be ridden like that today. He's
just class and keeps galloping."
On 17th March, 2011, Big Buck’s bagged a victory in the same race, the Grade 1 Ladbrokes World Hurdle, as he defeated Grands Crus by 1 ¾ lengths in the Cheltenham Festival. He raced with fervour and exceptional motivation that earned him the victory.
Coupled with Ruby Walsh, the same jockey who lead Big Buck’s to multiple victories, the son of Cadoudal, out of Buck’s, did wonders on the race-track.
He entered the race with winning odds of 5 to 6 and flew past the hurdles, comfortably securing the victory. He defeated runner-up, Voler La Vedette, by 1 ¾ lengths and won the prize of £148,070.00.
The victory this year adds a fourth World Hurdle win to his records, making his connections beam with pride.
The show doesn’t stop here for the gelding as the bettors and the bookmakers are already excited about what he will do in up-coming races.
Trained by C. A. Murphy, Voler La Vedette raced with a determined pace but she was still no match for Big Buck’s mighty pace.
With odds of 20 to 1, the daughter of King’s Theatre, out of Steel Grey Lady, was steady but did not threaten Big Buck’s in any way.
Smad Place, the son of Smadoun, out of Bienna Star, performed remarkably well, much to the satisfaction of his trainer, Alan King.
The five-year-old gelding was the mount of Robert Thornton and the duo acquired a placed position as they finished third in this prestigious race.
The Cheltenham Festival will conclude on 16th March, 2012, with a range of exciting races already getting the punters excited.
