Now i know the 30-06 is a great all around rifle but i dont really like it so im not going to get it. I own a 270. win in the model 70 but i dont think it is enough for a grizzly. I have always wanted a 30-378 weatherby mag but it is really expensive and the recoil is huge. I have also look closly at the 300. wsm which i think is an amazing rifle. Some people told me that the 325 wsm is an increadable rifle and i was wondering what your thoughts were on it. I dont want a 338. and i know it is a great rifle too. Which do you think is better between the 300. wsm and the 325 wsm? The gun will do 1 grizzly hunt and mostly northern ontarion moose and caribou.

  1. .300 wsm is a little too light for those animals.  .325 wsm is better choice.

  2. dad has 300 weatherby and it kicks like a mfer  .Real powerful gun  it could take down a grizzly. So i would have to chose 300 weatherby(even though its not a choice sorry ). It has recoil but just learn how to handle it and you'll be fine.

  3. Forget them all...300 Weatherby magnum with high-energy rounds has more energy at 400yards than the '06 has at the muzzle. If you don't want a .338 than this is the second flattest shooting hunting round available.

  4. You'd have to get the .325. Why don't you like the 30-06?

  5. Between these two choices the .325 is the obvious choice.  The .300 simply can not deliver the heavier bullets that the .325 can.    The .325wsm can push 200 and 220 grain bullets to near the same ballistics that a .300wsm can 180 grain.   When you are talking about large heavy game, the choice is a simple one.

  6. Well I grew up in NW Montana, which is grizzly country. I love the 300 Winchester Mag.  Yes, the 325 has more knockdown, but the 300 will work great.  The nice thing about the 300 is that, yes it packs a punch but you can fire more then one round at your target.  The 325 is a shoulder beater and it is hard to hit your target on the second round.  I also recomend if you have a grizzly permit is to have a large caliber pistol for backup.  Bring a 50 Desert Eagle or a 45 Smith & Wesson.

  7. Too bad about your thoughts on the 338 Win Mag.  As far as the other options go, for bear, the bigger the better.  Get the 325, and yes it is a good rifle.  It still won't equal the versatility of the338.

  8. There just isn't that much difference between 30 caliber and 8mm. If you don't want a 338 magnum, 338-06 is an option, or you could go even bigger, especially for moose and brown bear: perhaps even something like 9.3x62 or its little brother, 35 Whelen.

  9. By your selection criteria the 325 WSM.

  10. i agree with the other posters . . . the 325WSM, however . . . I think you should look at the  8mm remington mag also. The .325 WSM is a Delta L problem cartridge, meaning it can present unexpected chambering and/or feeding problems. The Delta L problem article explains this problem in more detail.

  11. I'm going to take the unpopular position here. If you want a new gun then get one. But don't think for one second that a .270 isn't enough gun for a griz. It ain't how big the bullet is or how much more power there is behind it. It's all about putting the bullet in the right place. The .270 has more than enough power to take anything in North America, you don't need more.
