Big Mahie likely to win Night Of Stars Open 350 Semi-final
The way Big Mahie won two open races during Jun-July suggests that the S. Lanney trained fawn dog will be able to show a convincing performance in the high-stakes race of Night Of Stars Open 350 Semi-final that is scheduled for Wednesday night.
This is going to be the novice runner’s second going at Shelbourne Park. Hopefully, he will unleash his utmost potential over 350 yards while running alongside five worthy rivals with each being eager to bag the ace title.
The two-year-old rookie runner debuted in May 2012, finishing second in the OR contest. After a couple of below-par performances, he managed to break his maiden by winning a big race with the big margin of 3¼ lengths.
The young and enthusiastic hound proved his class again on June 20 when he elegantly finished first by a length’s margin in the 2,200 Joe Dolan/ICC Open 350 Semi-final. Winning without a favourite tag was indeed a marvellous feat.
The talented son of Wallace Green out of Lady Bellevue completed his hat-trick with second straight OR victory on July 20. He had to fight hard for that success.
Then there came a couple of pathetic performances. Since August 30, Big Mahie has been out of action just to take some training so that he regains his form.
It is hoped that the skilled dog will be able to make a strong comeback tonight.
Winetavern Ringo can be the only hurdle on his way towards the finish line. The Monerawela trained black dog build up a long and epic streak of five consecutive victories during April-May 2012. He moved on to gain three consecutive runner-up ranks in June-July.
As a whole, the veteran dog possesses good record in the few open races he has run. In tonight’s marathon, the son of Royal Impact out of Miss Torres will give fairly tough time to Big Mahie.
Moreover, Winetavern Ringo is the best-priced candidate, and this will be an additional advantage for him.
Thus, we must expect a head-to-head battle in the mega semi-final. A huge crowd is likely to enjoy the live action. Good luck to both the brilliant dogs.
