Big Puma Lance Berkman will feature in ALCS Game 6
If most of you do not know who Lance Berkman is, then you probably don’t follow Major League Baseball. Big Puma, as he’s known around the circuit, has been quietly performing for the reigning World Series Champions, New York Yankees. The big slugger had
been the headline signing for the Yanks during the transfer window in August. His arrival from the Houston Astros of the national League was considered a big insurance cover for the ultimate title bid. Unfortunately, he has been somewhat of a lost figure in
the game of baseball.
During the normal American League season, the $14.5 million salary seemed too much for a designated hitter who carried a batting average of .248 and managed just 14 home runs in 122 games. The 34 year old was ineffective in leading in runs as well; batting
in just 58 runs.
Recently, during the 5th game in the American League Championship (ALCS) against the Texas Rangers, Berkman suffered a hard spill in the foul territory. He’s still sore from the fall and when asked where he hurt the most, on Thursday, he replied
by saying, “My rear, that’s it”. Big Puma mentioned seeing the replay video of the fall and linked it with the experience he had in a fall on the slick track.
On the account he said, “I fell down hard – It didn't feel good.”
The Big man will feature in the 6th game and will be in the starting line up against the Rangers, on Friday night. The news comes in after his workout training session which ruled him clear to start for the 6th encounter. His inclusion
as the first baseman, in place of Mark Teixeira who suffered a hamstring injury during game 4, will be a new change in his Yankee stripes.
Joe Girardi announced the Big Puma’s inclusion in the lineup after the workout session “The fact that he took BP today and was out there made me feel pretty good. I’m sure he's sore. You don't fall that hard and not be sore. But I don't expect it to affect
his play tomorrow. He'll be in there; unless something happens overnight.”
