Question:

Big Question about cloning....SAME spirit?

I just saw where the woman had her dog cloned that died some time back. She seemed ecstatic that she had her pet back. But did she? Is a cloned pet the same pet as far as it's own spirit is concerned? This raises the question as to if it is ever done on humans, would that person, spirit and all come back to life with a new body? I've never heard anyone mention this, but it is something that ought to be pondered. I think this is both a biological, as well as a philosophical question. So please don't answer this unless you can give some balance to this, as I can see where one side might try to ignore the other.

In all likelihood, this woman has gotten back exact copies of the original cloned animal. They are, after all, from the same DNA.  Keep in mind that cloning is not the same as creating identical twins, at least not in humans. There is a significant biological as well as quantum difference. Now, as to the cloned pups: they are genetically and phenotypically the same as the adult dog cloned. They will possess all of the same genetic based personality and temperament characteristics. This means, that if she raises the pups in a similar fashion that the original dog was raised, they, the pups, will respond to her in very nearly the same manner as the adult dog did.  Unlike human cloning, it will be nearly impossible to tell if the origina cloned dog lives again through the pups.  Personally, I believe that there is enough scientific based research, and resulting data, to suggest that that is what happens with cloned animals, including human being.

Human, or animal, cloning isn't this straight forward concept of just making a carbon copy "delayed" twin.  Cloning involves elements of conscious reality that life through the course of normal fertilization cannot achieve nor express.  There are classical and quantum laws of physics that affect DNA in our realm that doesn't occur with egg/sperm fertilization.

Because of this, and its enormous implications, human cloning must be reconsidered and extensively evaluated.  It is my personal believe that when we do finally rethink human cloning and successfully achieve it, that will change everything for humanity and for all live on the planet.  It will open so many doors for us that currently appear to be permanently clonsed.  It will open the door to humanity for reaching out to the stars and the realistic exploration of space and the universe.

  2. Some attributes of a personality are defined by genetics, and others by environment.

Therefore, the dogs spirits will be different, as it hasn't had the same experiences as the previous dog had.

It may have some similar attributes, but others such as behaviour, though how the dog interacts with humans and other dogs will, I believe, be different.

  3. I don't think that it would be possible to clone the spirit. Only the body. That is interesting about humans. I think I would say the same thing though. A clone starts as a fetus just like a "real" animal or person does, so I would think that it/he/she would have a new spirit as well.

  4. Unequivocally NO.  Cloning (perfectly done) is equivalent to creating the same entities as "identical twins."  Cloning produces an identical twin displaced in time.  Does one of the twins have the same "spirit?"  I don't think so.  The spirit would be comprised of the distinctly individual experiences of each of the separate beings and would thus diverge at birth.

  5. It IS a very interesting question, however it doesn't fall under the realm of biology, rather theology and philosophy.

Science must concern itself with phenomena that are measurable and disprovable, so unless it becomes possible to measure things like spirit, it won't be an area of inquiry for biologists.

  6. a spirit is not a physical entity and as such cannot be cloned. On a more personal level i donot believe in spirits to begin with, so your question is rather nonsensical

  7. Well to begin with, if you consider "spirit" to be the clones character.  It would be difficult to produce a clone with the same character as the character is formed from life experience.  Therefore, in order for a clone to have the same character it would have to have the exact life experience as the original.

As to biology, both the clone and the original organism are exactly the same genetically, which in effect means that there is no difference in either.

Having said that, this question also has a large part to do with the nature nurture debate.  Which at this time, the way which both form an organism, can not be properly separated.

  8. there is a movie called godsend about a couple that loses a son then has him cloned.the kid ends up similiar but with a different personality.it was good.you might want to watch it.
