Big Seventh inning leads the Baltimore Orioles past Detroit Tigers 9-5
The American League’s Baltimore Orioles bounced back from their first loss of 2011 season vanquishing league rivals the Detroit Tigers with score line reading 9-5 on Thursday night at Oriole Park in Camden Yards Baltimore.
An outing highlighted the Orioles’ batting strength that club’s president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail had planned. Realizing the weaknesses in offense, Macphill provided a club, who was 13th in runs last year, with batters Mark Reynolds, Vladimir
Guerrero and Derek Lee.
The move worked as Guerrero homered and Reynolds added three-run RBI assisting in bounce back win. Chasing two-run lead in second inning, Guerrero led off the Orioles hammering his first homer with Orioles and tied the game to 2-2.
The Tigers achieved two more runs in the top of fifth inning. It did not cause enough problems to Adam Jones, who launched his huge two-run grand slam in sixth inning off pitcher B Penny’s fast 90 mph pitch. The game again tied four at all.
With 11,648 spectators on stands, the Tigers did not let the game into opposition’s lap very easily. They struck back again in seventh earning a lead again. Orioles who was in full mood to take revenge of last night’s defeat, bounced back quickly in seventh
inning. This time Orioles did not stop until they made their win obvious posting four runs un-beaten advantage.
Adam Jones who paved the win in seventh inning seemed pleased while talking to the reporters after the game.
"Anybody on any given night can be a hero. Tonight Guerrero had two RBIs, I had a few and Reynolds had a few…. Just imagine if all nine of us are doing it in one night. It's better than last year, but we've still got a lot of games to go," Jones said. "You've
seen a lot of people start out well and you never hear anything about them."
The only homer from Tiger’s side was come of Alex Avila’s bat, which made second homer in two days. After hitting a fifth-inning homer, he walked in seventh and scored a double to left the Tigers one run lead.
Despite losing a game Detroit’s manager Jim Leyland seemed optimistic.
"We were looking to get home at .500 and we had a shot at that tonight and we let it get away," Leyland said. "We played six games and we're 2-4. That is what we deserve to be. Tomorrow, we will try to make it 3-4. If we pitch well, we'll have a shot."
