Big brother/ big sister look good for college?

you know the program big brother/ big sister where you volunteer your time to hang out with a kid that needs it.. you have to volunteer at least three to five hours at least two times a month.. i was just wondering does that look good on a college application.. [again im not talking about being a big brother or sister to your own sibling... its the program] you can look at it at.. http://www.bbbspittsburgh.org/

Any kind of volunteer participation "looks good" on an application, but do consider the kid. He'll catch on pretty fast if you're just doing it to "look good." He'll resent you after a while, and you'll be hurt and puzzled why you weren't shown more gratitude. The BB/BS program is harder than it looks. These kids are not waiting for you to swoop in and show them a better life.

Please don't make a commitment to a child for the wrong reasons. Better to donate your time picking up trash or helping the library shelve books - no damaged emotion potential there.
