Ive had a Hyundai Accent for 2 years and have had no problems with it at all. A couple months ago it started playing up sometimes when i started driving. It would have trouble accelerating and felt like it was in too high a gear or something. The car would keep jerking along if i put my foot down. The check engine light flashed on and off too. But after a while (when the car warms up i guess) it would stop. Ive never had this problem before! I noticed after a while though that it only does it after its been raining! so when its wet it plays up. the problem is getting worse and the check engine light is now permanently on so i was gonna take it to the garage today. i haven't driven the car in 2 weeks and now when i get in and try to drive off it wont even move! i can feel the car pulling but it wont move. feels like the handbrake is on but i definitely released the handbrake.

  1. well really dont you think when it started would have been better and less costly to repair.... and any time you get a light you stop what your doing and start checking you dont drive it anywhere but to the side of the road... complete tune up new fuel filter maybe check the exhaust have you check any of the fluids or when was the last time you have it service.... and brake job.... your about to spend out a lot of money the way you say what you feeling

  2. A flashing check engine light is bad.  You should have pulled over immediately and had it towed to the nearest repair shop.

If it stays on solid, that's not so bad.  The CE light indicates problems with the emission system (crankcase, evaporative or exhaust systems).  A vapor leak, a loose connection, even a loose gas cap.

Unfortunately now, you're probably looking at more than one concern if you are having problems shifting.  That could be a pulse generator, range switch, knock sensor, cam sensor, crank sensor.

Definitely get it to a shop as soon as you can.  Someone who has a scantool can hook up to your car to read the codes in the computer.  Sometimes auto parts stores will scan codes for free, but it is really up to a qualified technician to diagnose and repair.

I recommend your Hyundai dealer.  They will have all the resources at their fingertips and probably stock the part you need.  At the least, spend the money on the diagnosis at the dealer and get a quote for the repair.  Once you know what the part (s) is you can then look for aftermarket sources or buy OE yourself and have someone else install.

  4. It sounds like a transmission problem to me, but have the technician hook it up to a diagnostic scanner to pinpoint the problem.

  5. I'm assuming you have a automatic. Major transmission problems are more on the consistent side, most the time it wouldn't happen intermittently like the way your describing if it were a bad transmission. You could have an electrical or spark plug firing problem. Humidity and moisture can play a part in this. The Check Eng light is on so the shop should be able to scan the car's computer for a code. That's the key to the problem. I don't think it's a major problem like a bad engine or trans but it is something a pro should look at.

No need to panic and get rid of the car like someone suggested. It's a good chance it's something small.

  6. ITS A ACCENT, PROBABLY MORE EXPENSIVE TO FIX THAN REPLACE,BUY A DIFFERENT CAR TOYOTA MITSUBISHI HONDA  j**s AND GERMANS MAKE THE MOST RELIABLE CARS MALAYSIANS BUY LITTLE BITS OF OLD CARS AND HEY PRESTO HYUNDAI HAVE A NEW MODEL.

  7. Have no experience of the Accent, but if it is an automatic it sounds as though the  transmission fluid is low, can't think of anything else, check the  level of your fluid, if this is the problem top up the transmission fluid according to the makers instructions, hope this helps.
