Big competition for WR spots at Tampa Bay Buccaneers during training camp - NFL News
Tampa Bay Buccaneers have built up a solid offensive roster ahead of the 2012 season and the franchise is expected to challenge for the National Football Conference (NFC) South division title.
At wide receiver some great competition is set to take place during training camp as a number of players prepare to duke it out to become the starter.
Currently the Bucs roster boasts 11 players but only five or six of them will make the cut in training camp and be with the franchise when the new season starts.
The addition of Pro-Bowl wide receiver, Vincent Jackson, has significantly increased competition at the position.
Jackson during his time with the San Diego Chargers was the number one weapon of quarterback, Philip Rivers, and now with the Bucs he is set to help out quarterback, Josh Freeman, regain his previous form.
He will definitely be on the roster for next year leaving the rest of the ten players to fight it out for the remaining spots.
Five of those ten were on the team last year and this time competition will be cut throat.
Backup quarterback, Don Orlovsky told the Tampa Bay Times:
'I don't know if I've ever seen a top-five or six (group) in a receiving corps that's been this solid,'"
Quarterback, Josh Freeman who finally has weapons upfront to help him out could not be more excited and told the newspaper that he cannot wait to get out in training camp and practice with his receiver corps.
Tiquan Underwood, who signed this offseason with the Buccaneers, is ready for the competition.
He said:
"It's just a bunch of guys trying to make a name for themselves in this league. That just brings about competition. Competition is always good, because that makes the cream rise to the top."
It seems that Tampa Bay has more than enough players to fix up their offensive problems and it will be interesting to see how they perform under the guidance of new head coach, Greg Schiano.
Last season the franchise ended up with a horrendous 4-12 record and lost 10 games straight. This year they look like a division challenger.
