Big crowd makes Honda Classic the hottest tournament on PGA
Organisers of the Honda Classic are fully prepared to welcome an overwhelming number of spectators at the PGA National Champion Course, Palm Beach Gardens in Florida.
It is being expected that the crowd will be bigger this year as compared to the last season.
"Literally right after this event we'll sit down while things are fresh, we all have our checklist of things we could do a little bit better," said Ed McEnroe, the Tournament Director.
He added, "We spend about four or five days just going through the planning for next year and fixing the areas that we know we can improve on".
The tournament is scheduled from March 1 to 4 and a huge crowd is expected on the golf course.
Last year, almost 111,000 spectators enjoyed seeing their favourite golfers, but this season, the number is expected to increase beyond 160,000.
The ticket sale is at its peak and officials are now planning to halt the sale for the weekend. Some immediate renovations are also in progress with some security plans.
Honda Classic is popular for being played in Florida and having a purse of $5,700,000. The winner’s share is $1,026,000 and 550 FedEx points as well.
Most of the top-ranked players are in the field of the tournament, along with the four major title winners of 2011.
Charl Schwartzel, Rory McIlroy, Darren Clarke and Keegan Bradley are renowned golfers who won the major titles in the last season. Their presence in the field is making the tournament attractive for all the Floridian natives.
On the other hand, Tiger Woods is also playing his debut professional tournament at the Honda Classic. All the field players, combined with the crowd, have made the region populated.
"We have the best field to play that we ever had, before Tiger Woods. But we want to make sure that all the players have a great experience so they want to come back to the Honda and Palm Beaches every year," said Brent Waugh, the Director of Operations.
All the players in the field are heading to Florida. Meanwhile, the renovations and pre-planning will be completed in a day or two.
The competition is expected to stage a tough battle, and spectators will be enjoying their favourites on the course.
