Big dilema with rehoming rats?

ok i have a massive dilema....im rehoming my rats i have 4 females and pets at home said they can take 3 which is good, but im stuck on what to do. one of the rats had a tumor so i cant give them that one. so im stuck on wether to give 3 females and just keep the ill rat as (and i hate to sound morbid and nasty) she could die from the tumor. but then she seems well in herself so she could well survive too which would mean shes on her own. but then if i keep 2 rats so she has compant then what if she does end up dying then my other rat will be alone tooo. i really dont no what to do, i love my rats and im not wishing her to dye, i dont want that. the only reason im having to rehome them is because im moving house and the new place wont allow rats. i havnt taken to rat to the vets yet as i seriously have no money. i no it sounds cruel but im so broke i cant afford it, but she does seem appsalutly fine in how shes acting, shes still running around and playing. the tumors a bout half the size of a ping pong ball. im going to take her to the vets asap.

so basically im asking do i keep one rat and if it survives give it lots of love so its not lonely. or keep 2 and risk the well one being left on its own but then again still give it lots of love. its just if i end up with one, it will be hard to rehome as it will be alone and may not get on with other new rats arrgh dillema dilema xx

  1. Try to keep them all...if you plan to hide one at the new place (the one who is ill), then surely you can hide all 4...at least until you've decided what to do?

  2. Are you sure its not an abcess. Most rats can live out normal long lives with tumers so long they arent pressing on any vital organs. If it were me I would just keep her if its an issue with the ppl that are taking the other ones. But beforwarned she will get lonely. She needs another of her kind in the cage with her. If she gets lonely it can cause all kinds of neurotic behavior one being biting. Good luck and get her to the vet. Oh and abcesses can grow very very big in size. Just in case it is an abcess try taking a warm wet rag and soaking it on the area a couple times a day for like 3 days. If it is an abcess when it comes to a head it will form a black scab on the end. And then it will bust open.

  3. If they don't allow rats then you can't keep any. But if your thinking of keeping one you might as well keep them all and hide them all. :)

  4. Couldn't you give two and keep two - the one with the tumour and one of the ones without - and if the one with the tumour dies, give the one you kept to pets at home later?
