For the last couple years, about twice a year, my family and I keep seeing groundhogs in our backyard, and they live under our shed. Even though we have a fence surrounding our yard, they dig under it and get in. Our mixed breed dog has already attacked and killed 3 groundhogs that have settled under our shed, but more keep coming back!!! Why do groundhogs keep coming back to live under our shed and how can we get rid of them once and for all??

  1. Call animal control find out if they can trap them to remove them from the property.

One burrowed under out house this year, so I am familiar with your problem. The mother digs a hole for each of the babies and leaves it until it is grown. It sounds like your problem is much worse than ours.

Here is a link with other suggestions.

    Good luck.

  2. let them smell you and then put your v****a lips in them

  3. Your dog has it right, but groundhogs are easy targets for rabbis! I've bought a trap and had to pay $150 for removal, because my town and state doesn't get involved with wildlife. RELOCATING WILDLIFE IS ILLEGAL IN MOST STATES. MOTH CRYSTALS WILL CONTAMINATE THE SOIL AND ENVIROMENT. If you are in a state where you can get a  pellet gun, DO IT! You can get an air rifle for under $100. You'll need a rifle with 900 fps (fps, feet per second is the speed of how fast the pellet will go) or greater to penetrate their skin. Kill 'em all! Just make sure you go legally about this and can hunt them on your property before you cause any problems greater than the groundhogs are doing to your shed's foundation.

  4. I love "Lucky D" s answer.  What you can also do is dig out 6 inches of soil around the shed and put 12 inches of a roll of chicken wire under that soil and cover it.  Run the rest up the sides of the shed and staple.  Sprinkle the area with moth crystals.

  5. Groundhogs keep coming back to the same burrow. When I lived by myself before getting married, in our old homeplace, I had a groundhog burrow under the house.  A friend sat a trap for me, and a groundhog got in it.  I called my brother, and we got it into a garbage can, put the lid on it, and took it 3 miles away and turned it loose. It beat me home!!  They are almost impossible to get rid of. They always have an escape hole, but if you can find that, put a hose on your gasoline lawn mower, on the exhaust, run the hose into the hole, and let your mower run awhile.  Maybe the groundhog will come out the escape hole, and you can get them with your .22 rifle.  Someone else told me, put lye at the door of the hole, they will walk over it, when their feet are wet, it burns their feet, the l**k their feet, and it will kill them. My husband tried it, think maybe it might have helped, but this year, there are more groundhogs. Think maybe others just use the burrow, too lazy to dig their own.
