Big guns started to load for Australian Open 2013 – Tennis News
All the top rated tennis super stars are currently enjoying their vacations in the off-season but they are actually gearing up for a cracking beginning to the 2013 professional circuit. Most of the big guns have committed to play
exhibition events across the world this month, purely for the sake of getting some practice before the new season begins.
The Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, has flown to South America for a busy exhibition schedule. It is quite surprising that the player of his calibre and age has engaged himself in three exhibition tournaments in the next ten days.
He will face the Brazilian number one, Thomaz Bellucci, on his home soil at Sao Paulo, followed by another tough encounter against the former US Open champion, Juan Martin Del Potro, in Buenos Aires, next week. He will continue his exhibition voyage against
the French number one, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, in El Campin, Bogota, on 15th of December.
Not only Federer is showing his inclination to play such warm-up events, Andy Murray has already played an exhibition tournament in Miami last week. Other big names on the women’s side include the likes of the world number one,
Victoria Azarenka, second ranked Maria Sharapova, American veteran Serena Williams, former world number one, Caroline Wozniacki and Ana Ivanovic. ATP’s Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Nicolas Almagro, John Isner and Tommy Robredo have also committed to play
exhibition tournaments in the off season.
So it seems like every top-rated player is keen to get tuned into the game before igniting the 2013 season. Most of these players didn’t show this spirit in the last off-season but since the sport of tennis is getting more and
more competitive, the players have to devise newer methods to sustain their form during the vacations. Exhibition tournaments will certainly help the contestants to practice against the world class opponent without any fear of defeat at the back of their minds.
All these preparations are actually aimed at the season-opening Australian Open Grand Slam event. Enjoying a month and a half of vacations off the tennis courts might get even big guns rusty and exhibition tournaments are a better
way to load up before actual firing begins next season.
