Big horses?

Question

I love big horses like clydesdales, and percherons, ect.

do you know where I can buy one.

Id prefer if the horse had good ground manners, and good temper.

There are many Classified Ads websites online that allows you to see horses that are for sale. Ive used them all. I like equinehits, thats where i found two of my horses.

just type in your search engine for draft horses for sale or clydesdale horses for sale in (whatever state you are in).before you buy one you need to do a lot of research in your area about vets (some large animal vets wont work with draft breeds)farriers (you need to find one or several that will do drafts and expect to pay up to $150.00 for one to be shod) a good supplier of hay (drafts eat about twice the amount of hay a day than a light horse)a draft saddle (draft horses use a special gullet and bars in the saddles) tack needs to be bigger if you can find it and a tall mounting block.so there is a lot more than just looking for a draft horse than most people think.

You haven't told us what area you're in. I can't reccomend a good horse for you if I don't know where you are.

It's fine to love good horses, but you shouldn't explore them exclusively. Big horses can have a lot of oomph. If this is your first horse, I'd reccomend something a bit smaller.

you could probably also find one at a local barn. usually all drafts had good ground manners and tempers.

There are two more unusual place to find them.

A.  Usually breeding farms for racehorses constantly breed drafts so that if a broodmare rejects her baby or dies, the foal will have a "surrogate mother". The draft's foals are usually sold for a bargain since they are not needed.

B.  Some jails also breed drafts for inmates to handle. The horses teach them responsibility and the jails have no need for extra horses, so they might be for sale there.  **My cousin's Percheron mix came from a jail.
