Big men who can be good Hakeem Olajuwon protégés – NBA Feature Part 4
Hakeem Olajuwon is the perfect example of how to be a true dominating centre in the NBA and the current group of young and talented big men can learn a thing or two from the legendary inventor of ‘The Dream Shake’
DeMarcus Cousins
DeMarcus Cousins is one of the most young and talented big men in the NBA but his in ability to remain calm has gotten him into trouble on more than a few occasions. So far in his career, he may have not become the most dominating
big men in the NBA but with a little bit of work could be on his way and coaching from Olajuwon can be of great help.
The most important thing that Cousins could need help on is how to deal with pressure situations and who better to learn the art of staying calm then the best centre to ever play in the NBA. It was this ability to stay composed
which not only brought individual success to Olajuwon but helped him win back to back championships with the Houston Rockets.
So if Cousins wants to keep one big men as an idol, Olajuwon is the perfect fit. Coming from his second season in the NBA, Cousins averaged 18.1 points and 11 rebounds per game and with a little help from Olajuwon can even improve
on that.
Another thing Olajuwon can help him improve is his positioning on the court. He may be a great defensive rebounder but on offensive, Cousins is known for being too complacent regarding movement without the ball. So Olajuwon can
be of great help regarding the 22 year olds’ movement who still has a lot to go before being able to cement himself as a prime big man in the NBA.
