Big moment for Milwaukee Brewers' Prince Fielder – MLB News
The Milwaukee Brewers’ first baseman Prince Fielder received a standing ovation on Sunday, October 16 as he faces an uncertain future pertaining to his stay or departure from the team. At-bat in the eighth-inning, that was essentially the final at-bat for
him, he was cheered and given an amazing farewell by everyone.
Albert Pujols of the St. Louis Cardinals was actually the first one to come forward and pay his tribute to the enormously talented and incredibly respected Prince Fielder. He described with a tinge of emotion what the gesture meant.
“I've been in that situation in St. Louis with the best fans in baseball, and I wanted Fielder to get a great standing ovation," Pujols said.
However, the most emotional of moments came for Prince Fielder himself. A regular contributor in 96 regular-season victories for the Milwaukee Brewers, the best in over three decades, Fielder took his time with an overwhelming feeling to describe how he
felt at the occasion.
He obviously attaches huge importance to the team and attributes his success to the team, for Fielder the experience to be with the Brewers has been ‘real’.
“I had to clear the throat once, but it was all right," Fielder said. "I love these guys. Yeah, man, it's just been good. It's been real."
Becoming a first-round Draft pick of the Milwaukee Brewers in 2002, Prince Fielder never looked back and continued to bring glory to the team with his 230 home-runs, being second only to the Brewers’ Robin Yount in the team’s history, with 656 RBIs.
Even the Cardinals team manager knows what Fielder stands for. “I've watched him grow up, and he's grown up to where he's not only just a dangerous producer, but I've watched how he is part of the leadership of that club," La Russa said.
Ten years with the Milwaukee Brewers, leaving a team that came to represent Prince Fielder or vice versa, it is indeed a profound moment for Fielder to leave the team now. It will be interesting to see which club makes a move for Fielder for next year.
