Big names added to Israel FC November card

Several well-known former Ultimate Fighting Championships mixed martial artists have been added to an upcoming 9 November card, including Jeff Monson, Frank Trigg and Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou. The card is
set to take place in Israel and is being put on by Israel FC.

Also featured on the card will be some other big names, like former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez, PRIDE veteran Charles “Krazy Horse’ Bennett, Hermes Franca and Shonie Carter.

With the explosion of popularity in MMA across the globe, cards like these featuring very good talent for one-off events are becoming very commonplace. Impact FC recently put on two such events in Australia,
and on 11 September Shark Fights did the same thing in Amarillo, Texas. With internet pay-per-view, quickly setting up the infrastructure for an event is becoming easier and easier.

And of these fighters, there’s no shortage of big names. As noted, Rodriguez once held the UFC belt, but others have fought at the highest level. Trigg was long one of the best welterweight (170lb) fighters
in the world, and challenged Matt Hughes for the UFC title twice, famously getting choked out both times.

Franca also once challenged for a UFC belt, the lightweight title, doing so unsuccessfully at UFC 73 against Sean Sherk. Monson also had his hat in the ring, losing to Tim Sylvia at UFC 65 in his own unsuccessful
run at the belt.

Most of these fighters though will be taking on relatively unknown competition and are on the downsides of their careers, with Trigg, Sokoudjou, Franca, Carter and Bennett all coming off of losses.

Rodriguez on the other hand has revived his career with a nine-fight win streak, including a win over Travis Fulton. Regardless of the level of competition these men will face, their name power alone should
ensure this is one of the biggest non-UFC cards of the fall.
