Big names to be featured at the Transitions Championship – Golf News
While many golf players are taking their weeks off after a tiring schedule of two World Golf Championships in the last three weeks, the Transitions Championship has succeeded yet again in attracting many good players to its field in order to make it a good
competition.
The world number one, Rory McIlroy, has decided to take complete rest prior to the start of the Masters Championship in April.
Similarly, Phil Mickelson has the same reason to miss the field at the Innisbrook, Salamander Golf & Spa Resort, Palm Harbor, Florida.
However, Tiger Woods was among the confirmed players to participate in the event. Yet, he had to remain out of the course because of the recent injury that he suffered during the final round of the WGC – Cadillac Championship.
While some players are taking rest before the Masters, others believe that this is the right time to gain some momentum.
Luke Donald and the defending Masters Champion, Charl Schwartzel, are among the players who are participating in the Transitions Championship.
According to Donald, he has not been impressive since the start of the 2012 golf season. Therefore, taking the weeks off prior to the first major event of the year will not help him in any case.
Therefore, he wants to return to his form that earned him several prestigious awards last year, including money titles and player of the year titles, on both the PGA and the European Tours.
Moreover, he reached the number one position in the Official World Golf Rankings last year because of his consistent performances throughout the year.
This year has witnessed him losing all his momentum and falling to the second position in the OWGR since McIlroy replaced him with a win in the Honda Classic.
Keeping all this in mind, Donald is continuously playing to make a comeback and regain his momentum.
Schwartzel also has a similar strategy to follow. However, he has not been in as bad a form in the last few tournaments as Donald.
Therefore, he is among the favourites to win the Masters for the second consecutive time.
Webb Simpson, Jason Day, Padraig Harrington, Vijay Singh, Ernie Els, John Daly, David Toms, Stewart Cink, Justin Leonard, Jim Furyk, Justin Rose, Gary Woodland, KJ Choi, Paul Casey, and Sergio Garcia are some of the other big names confirmed to participate
in the event.
