  1. David Ortiz has been out or over a month now, and he is not ready to face major league pitchers after being injured all that time. In rehab assignments, what ball clubs try to do is get his batting eye back and get him used to playing everyday. He will be back, however, soon.

  2. Why would he be "practicing" on ML level? That makes no sense. Minor leagues are for rehab and getting his timing right and swing on track. No need to practice during games, especially in a tight AL East race.

  3. he was in pawtucket before portland.  he is facing live pitching and will be ready for the yankee series.

  4. He's on a rehab assignment.

He's getting ready by facing live action pitches.

    Not batting practice ones.

He'll be up in the Major Leagues this week.

    Jack

  5. They do this only to see how his body reacts. To make sure he is healthy. That way if he's not feeling well, he can come out at any time. Just a precaution. He'll be back soon.

  6. He is practicing and getting used to live pitching while it doesn't effect the Major League club.  He did spent some time with Pawtucket the Sox AAA affiliate, but they went on a road trip and the organization wanted to keep him close to New England and transfered him to the AA affiliate, Portland.
