Big promises bigger problems for Tiger Woods
Tiger Woods may be feeling that he has set the standards way too high even for him to live up to them, and it may prove to be doubly hard for him to live up to his own words.
It has been a year since Tiger gave that infamous speech at Sawgrass his first public comments since he was exposed for cheating on his wife. The attention is more emphasized from the statement, “When I do return, I need to make my behaviour more respectful
of the game.”
Although if you ask Woods, he might say he has worked on his behaviour but to the fans and the critics who watch his every move did not see any change of behaviour in Dubai.
Tiger Woods was at the 12th hole squatting to read a putt and then he turned his head to the side and spit on the green, the British commentator Ewen Murray of sky sports was on at that moment and was very upset at the sight of this misbehaviour and said,
“You look at his work ethic and he’s a credit to the game, an inspiration to all of those who are trying to become professional golfers, but some parts of him are just arrogant and petulant. Somebody now has to come onto this green behind him and maybe putt
over his spit. It doesn’t get much lower than that.”
Although there has been an incident in the history of golf where the player stretched the bounds of how low it can get, it was Sergio Garcia at the Doral in 2007 when he bent over and dropped a loogie into the cup after missing a short putt.
The video of Woods spitting had already become viral on YouTube and other video blogging sites as the European Tour said he will be fined an undisclosed sum for breaching the code of conduct on the tour.
The sad thing is this was not his first time he has been fined, it is not the first time he spit and it is certainly not the first time he has found himself in the kind of situation he is now.
Woods though has been spitting all along its kind of a part of his game as much as the red shirt he wears on Sunday, but before we seldom paid any attention to his antics, whether it was spitting on the green or using foul language to show frustration.
He is known for slamming his clubs after a poor shot, and there have been incidents where he yelled out “FORE!” when he really meant another word that starts with the same letter.
His game, the celebrity status and winning ways put a cloak over his misdemeanours. So it was believed, as soon as Woods will go back to his winning ways all would be forgotten. The winnings never came and the scrutiny is evermore heightened with a magnifying
glass over the camera lens covering Tiger.
The British media used to refer to Woods as the “great man” was all over Tiger for the not so famous glob after his round Sunday.
Woods though Tweeted his apology a day later. He said, “The Euro Tour is right -- it was inconsiderate to spit like that and I know better. Just wasn’t thinking and want to say I’m sorry.”
All the flaws that he has as a person were much easier to let go when he kept us occupied with his golf feats, the tides of fate seem to have toppled Woods supreme reign over the game, critics and the fans.
It is more of a love to hate relationship that has grown for Tiger Woods, he definitely has some sympathizers as well, but whichever way you want to look at it one thing is certain, out of all this negativity Woods can take a positive out of the media attention
he gets and that people are still very interested in watching him.
