Big respect for Australia?

20 million citizens and 33 medals of which 11 are gold. It's unbelievable.

I was bown in Australia and can say that I'm proud of the athletes.

I have done my own 'international sport representative competitiveness' index, much like that funny one they do on Sunrise that shows Australia have actually won three thousand gold medals based upon our population or something like that.  

Except in my index medals are valued on the basis of how truly competitive the sport is on an international basis.  Niche sports in which only a handful of countries historically compete like rowing and swimming are marked down, whereas sports in which all countries can participate on an equal basis such as track & field are marked up.  On that basis I can report that Jamaica is leading the adjusted medal tally with 830 gold medals, whereas Australia is in equal 43rd place with one silver and two bronze.

go australia but china just keeps hogging all the medals, i thought i hated america always winning on the medal tally but i hate china winning even more go america catch those commi's

Hi Janoso, don't Chinese athletes win medals based on their hard work just like any other athletes? We don't hate Americans but sometimes we do laugh at them for their ignorance. So don't let people laugh at us for the same reason.

Well i'm english and always have much respect for Aussie sports success. Truely the greatest sporting nation. And I'm sure they are secretly impressed with britain this olympic year, lol!

The Aussies have done really well, but I agree with 'Tin Foil' cat, for the tax dollars I would hope so.  Can't believe Sunrise tv just claimed GB is above Oz only because of money, after Oz has pumped $$$ into sports programs for so many years!! Credit where it's due all round, I say.

I have respect for Australia as a country but I don't have respect for Australians whose only topic of conversations is how much they hate America.

I guess my respect for them will not come from winning medals.

Bet we are world beaters at that too!!

And what about the Kiwis? 4 Million of them and two gold?

And the Jamaicans?
