Question:

Big subwoofer problem need help!!?

I recently bought all new equipment.

(2) Alpine SWR 1042D Type R's

(1) Alpine MRP-M650

(1) Alpine MRP-M850

When i bought the amps i tired to get 2 MRP-M650's so they would be identical and i could use one amp per sub, but the company i ordered from only had one and then informed me they had been "discontinued."

First, would wiring the subs like this be alright to do?

Second, I built my own box and with the trunk lid open its crazy loud inside and outside the car, but when i close the lid it seems to kill all volume and almost no bass can be heard. What would be an alternative box design (or should i purchase one) to fix this?

Would facing the front of the speakers into the car (1997 Honda Accord) make the bass louder. I'm looking for the loudest possible system.

Thanks in advance!

  1. Your best design for a box would be to build the baffle board (what the  subs are mounted to) into the wall between your trunk and your interior and porting it through the rear deck. The reason its louder with the trunk open is because the closed trunk causes the sound waves to cancel each other out from bouncing. Usually facing the subs towards the back of the car fixes that problem but every car is different. As for the sub configuration I would recommend returning those amps and buying amps that are strappable (or just buy one amp big enough to power both subs). You'll get much better results and your equipment will last much longer and sound better. And contrary to an above answer, i do have two amps on one sub and it works great. The difference is that I have strappable amps (basically you only have to set one amp and the other is slaved to it, one amp runs negative and one runs positive).

  2. http://www.caraudiohelp.com/ohms_law/ohm...

formula to give understanding. also teaches you all about car audio good luck

  3. You are guaranteed to blow those Type-R's with that wiring configuration. since you have two different amp's which put out different power. And it sounds like you need Sound Dampening material, like Dynamat for your trunk, it should be the opposite way as far as loudness...when your trunk is open it shouldn't be as loud as when trunk is closed, depending on how you have it set up. You should have it so the subwoofers are facing your trunk lid, firing away from you, it will be loudest for your vehicle.

  4. im gonna say NO. dont wire them like that. I have never seen 2 amps on one sub.

Now it can be done. But dont. Each amp would have to be pussing the exact same power. And i meen exact.

Run each amp to its own speaker. http://mobile.jlaudio.com/support_pages....

This link has how to wire your subs.

Since your amp's can handle 2 ohm, and your speakers are dual4, you can wire them down to 2 ohm's. This will be a better sound.

Link is jl audio. look at, 1 DVC driver with Voice Coils in Parallel

As far as the box. port or non ported, thats up to how you like your bass. Now the box should be built to size for the speakers       -sealed box volume: 0.5-0.8

    -ported box volume: 0.6-1.3  feet.

  5. If you hooked up the amps to the subs like that, Im pretty sure you would mess the Ohms up and you DO NOT want to do that unless you know what your doing. About the box, there is a special equation that I believe that you can look up on the internet, on how much space should be in the box depending up the subs and stuff. Personally, I think when the box is ported you get a super loud sound, I have 1 8" 100RMS and just from that I get body flex. Its a ported tube

  6. If your seats are up in the back, then you won't be able to hear your subs. When your trunk is closed, make sure your back seats are down or if u have a middle compartment in the back seats that folds down then open that.

  7. port the box. since trunks have little airflow, the subs aren't breathing which therefore aren't pushing out as much bass as they normally would. good luck. (porting is easy don't worry)
