NO MASTITIS

The mare has pain nursing his foal NORMAL MILK

Anything anormal on the clean udder skin

Insects?

What can I do?

  1. Is the bag just really full and tight?

    You can try relieving the pressure by milking.  Although, if the foal is brand new, you don't want to waste any colostrum.  If the foal is brand new, I would halter and twitch the mare if necessary so the foal gets the colostrum.

    Don't believe bug bites will cause pain for nursing.  If you're saying you have a problem with bug bites I wouldn't be spraying her udder will bug repellant.  I don't want my foal getting that in it's mouth all the time.


  2. I don't know a lot about horses, but we had problems with my cow once, she had alot of milk, no mastitis either. Would not let her calf drink. We ended up having to tie her up and milk her down. After the pressuer was off, she let the calf drink fine and no more problems after that.
