Big win against New York Giants revives playoff hopes for Cincinnati Bengals – NFL News
A few days after coach Marvin Lewis issued their offence a stark warning to step up level of their game, quarterback Andy Dalton gave a record performance to revive hopes for otherwise struggling the Cincinnati Bengals of making the playoffs this season.
Dalton was a star performer in his rookie appearance to lead the Bengals offence from the front last season but had been struggling to make an impression on the field this season, before the game versus reigning Super Bowl champions the New York Giants.
His four impressive touchdown passes changed fortune of the Bengals and they came out victories against the visitors. The win has helped the Bengals record to improve at 4-5 while their competitors the Pittsburgh Steelers are two games ahead at 6-3 and the
Baltimore Ravens at 7-2.
The Bengals will have to win all their games for rest of the season to match the Steelers, at least. The Steelers had made rather sluggish start but lately have found the winning ways. So although the Bengals have a difficult task of winning a majority games
in rest of the season, it is not an impossible target.
A positive point is that the Bengals had been through a similar circumstance last year and at the end they made the playoffs out of the blue through a wild card opportunity while some of their certain competitors ended up without qualifying for the second
round.
It will depend how Dalton performs for rest of the games. If he is able to perform as good as he did last year, he can help his side through to the postseason. The confidence level of the team after the win against Giants is certainly high.
Wide receiver Andrew Hawkins said:
"To beat the defending Super Bowl champs is a big deal. The NFL has great parity. This was a great example of it. Today we played extremely well. Spirits were high."
It is to be seen how the team goes about in remaining games of the season.
