  1. These guys get a lot of flack as ghost hunters, but the fact is that we still have some animals out there that have not been discovered.  The Okapi was only discovered in 1901, the coelocanth was discovered in 1938, and the "extinct" Ivory Billed Woodpecker has just been rediscovered after an absence of over fifty years. When you consider that biologists have been actively seeking the Ivory Bill for fifty years in a relatively small area, you can see that not all animals are easy to find.

As for Bigfoot, Nessie, Champ etc, it's hard to say when you are looking for animals that may just be shy or may no even exist.  Bigfoot sightings are talked about in the wilds of western Canada.

  2. I call it Mythology.

  3. It is Cryptozoology.  There is no degree, or body of knowledge for this as far as I know.  You could study Zoology and then go into searching for these creatures of disputed existence.  However, no degree is required to do it.  If you want to have your discoveries or data published in scientific journals, it would be necessary to have some credentials.

  4. Cryptozoology (from Greek κρυπτός, kruptos, "hidden" + zoology; literally, "study of hidden animals") is the study of and search for animals which fall outside of contemporary zoological catalogues. It consists of two primary fields of research:

The search for living examples of animals taxonomically identified through fossil records, but which are believed to be extinct.

The search for animals that fall outside of taxonomic records due to a lack of empirical evidence, but for which anecdotal evidence exists in the form of myths, legends, or undocumented sightings.

Those involved in cryptozoological study are known as cryptozoologists; the animals that they study are often referred to as "cryptids", a term coined by John Wall in 1983. Cryptozoology has seen very little attention from the mainstream scientific community.
