Question:

Biggest 2k test of my life?

Ok, so I was in the top varsity boat and we were doing great, we had won every single race that we had been in. We 2k tested the other day and I had been having a horrible week and had a million things on my mind. Needless to say, I pulled a horrible time. So, the next day we seat raced...3 short seat races and no stop watch. I was taken out of that boat. I went to my coach and was so upset because this was everything that I had been working for since November and all of a sudden it was gone. She told me that I will have another chance to win my seat back, but I am going to have to 2k test on Monday to beat the other rower. I'm very hard on myself mentally, so any tips, encouragement, or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  1. 1.  Relax.

    2. Work out doing only recovery workouts the next few days to be well rested. If you've had one or more really tough workouts this week, you'll need Friday through Monday to fully recover and be stronger on Monday.

    3.  Have a good warm-up that finishes a few minutes before the test. Then your heart and drive muscles will all be well oxygenated before you start.  Only flirt with lactic acid burn during the 2k, too long and you will fade, guaranteed.

    4. Don't go out too fast, although the coach may require a certain pace.  Get to the pace you need quickly, and hold that pace.

Don't forget the other rower may have been training very hard, and has surpassed you in strength and endurance.  If you don't win this challenge, sincerely congratulate the other person, and ask about what they have done to improve so much.

The coach is obligated to race the fastest boat, nothing personal. Stay involved, and keep improving.
