  1. Mexicans and Puerto Ricans i would say, their fights are usually hard fought brawls of honor

  2. Whites vs Blacks....

There just seems to be no end to the issues between the two groups.  Boxing is definitely no different.

Remember the Great White Hope......Gerry Cooney.  The White Hope part was specifically for a white fighter to beat a black fighter for the HW crown.  If Larry Holmes' last name were Martinez, that fight would have been on ABC for free!

While the rivalry might be more significant between blacks and whites, here are some fights that I have seen where the racial tension was high:

    1. Frankie Randall vs JC Chavez.......I watched this fight in a predominantly Mexican bar.  If there would have been a black person in that bar on the "bad" side of town, who knows what would have happened.  I didn't tell anyone I was pulling for Randall.

    2. Mosley vs DLH....same as #1.

    3. Trinidad vs Vargas.........a room full of Mexican and PR guys (myself included).  All a bunch of suburbanites......yet it still degraded into a name calling event.

    4. Cotto vs Mosley........I was the only guy in a room full of PR's that picked Mosley at the begining of the fight.  I was one lonely PR guy that night.  You would have sworn that I was the mechanic of Roberto Clemente's plane that fateful day.

All of the groups have had great fighters confront each other.  In many instances the tension in the room amongsts the fans can be pretty d**n thick.

  3. ali vs foreman?

  4. Gotta be Frazier vs Ali.

The biggest race rivalry over boxing is between the Human race and the trolls here at Yahoo boxing.

  5. you vs intellegent people who aren't racist

  6. This is a tough one because in each scenario there have been some really huge rivalries

In the latin american world mexicans versus latinos tends to be very huge as the fighters usually fight for honor and country however these fights do not always attract world wide attention (with the exception of de la hoya vs trinidad) i can't really think of any other fight that had as much attention world wide (moreover whenever oscar fights you are guaranteed to have a huge gathering)

Mexicans versus puerto ricans only draws attention in the latin world, and just like i said before the only mexican fighter who can generate a huge amount of attention world wide is oscar de la hoya.

puerto ricans versus african americans, not really because the majority of african american boxers that have world wide impact usually do so at the heavy weight level where there aren't as many hispanics, the latinos dominate the lighter categories and usually there aren't too many big time rivalries with african americans (the biggest i can think of is leonard versus duran and he wasn't even puerto rican....perhaps soon mayweather will decide to face cotto and then we could have an interesting rivalry

whites versus blacks, In my opinion it always comes down to this, ever since jack johnson stepped into the ring and broke the myth of african american inferiority there has been a silent rivalry between races, african americans have dominated boxing in the higher weight classes for years and a lot of whites are still waiting for a great white hope to reclaim that number one spot, people want to see another marciano or another dempsey emerge and be undisputed heavy weight champ (the klitchskos don't really count because they are russian and many americans can't relate to them) its always been that way, I remember Cooney versus Holmes, the racial element in that fight was very huge and gathered a lot of attention back then (i think they set a pay per view record that night) and I remember how people rallied behind Quarry and expected him to be the next great champ, I also remember how people believed that Tommy Morrision was going to be the next great champ to defeat mike tyson (until mercer mercilessly knocked him out) I think there has always beeing a silent rivalry between these two and whenever such rivalry arises there is always world wide attention

Therefore I would be inclined to say that the rivalry between whites and blacks is the biggest.

  7. I think whites vs blacks is still a big rivalry, but not as big as in the past. In my opinion the rivalries are more with countries now such as Russians against Americans in the heavyweight. But I would say Mexicans vs. Puerto Ricans have the biggest rivalry due to honor and heart they have been known for. Ex: Julio Cesar Chavez vs. Hector Camacho, Trinidad vs. Oscar. Watch the April 12 boxing coming up and tell me if there is no rivalry.

But ofcourse it's hard to say because every one of those has had great rivalries.

  8. brits against americans always a draw look what hatton did taking over 40,00 fans halfway across the world proves this rivalry is the most prestegious seen as prizefighting originated in britain. for britain for how samll a country it is and how poular other sports are to boxing weve done well some stars from these shores have been produced such as hatton calzaghe benn bruno (personal favourite he is the peoples champ) henry cooper lennox lewis but to name a few

  9. definetly whites versus balcks just look at the numbers whenever its a black versus white guy in a championship fight the ppv numbers are through teh roof

  10. Mexicans vs Manny Pacquiao ^.^
