Biggest two record breaking performances of 2012 – Tennis Special
Year 2012 proved to be a magnificent season for the world of tennis with several record breaking performances from the top ranked players along with some marvellous breakthroughs for few underdogs. The two glorious moments that were snapped in the current
year were registered by none other than two former world number ones, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.
First of the two majestic records is the eight consecutive title for the 26-year-old Spanish hero at the field of Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters. He toppled some of the fantastic players in the draw and mounted on to become the first player in the history of
tennis to win a particular tournament for eight times in a professional career. No other player has achieved such dominance at any field, let alone a Masters Event worth thousand points.
On accomplishing a unique record, Nadal said, “It's very important to break that situation. It's important to win a tournament another time; especially [this] tournament. [Breaking] that situation [and] winning a Masters 1000, one of my favourites, [makes]
everything perfect today.”
The second unmatchable historic moment in the year 2012 came from none other than the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer. He won his seventh Wimbledon title to take his tally to 17 Grand Slam trophies in a career. He shot up to the number one rank in the world
with that achievement and held it long enough to break the 300-weak world number one record of Pete Sampras with an addition another short reigned spell at the top spot.
Majestic record holder, Federer confessed, “I had set a goal with my team to try and get back to the top of the rankings, but I never thought with the depth in the game this year that I would have been able to get it back so quickly. I am extremely proud
and honoured to have beaten Pete's record as he was my childhood hero and I have always looked up to him.”
The 31-year-old extended the record to 302 weeks before the 25-year-old Serb, Novak Djokovic, reclaimed his spot at the top of the world and ended the cameo of his arch rival. It has been an influential and entertaining season for the entire world; promising
a whole lot of record breaking events in 2013.
