Biggest upsets of 2012 – Jerzy Janowicz beats Andy Murray – BNP Paribas Masters
Young Pole, Jerzy Janowicz, secured his remarkable win against the British number one, Andy Murray, in the third round of the BNP Paribas Masters held at the indoor hard courts of Paris.
He consolidated his triumph in a three set thrilling encounter, 5-7, 7-6(4), 6-2.
In a post match interview, Janowicz said, “This was the most unbelievable day in my life. I beat the Olympic champion, US Open champion. I beat Andy Murray. Still, I have the feeling that in a few minutes I'm going to wake up and it will all be gone. But
in one hand I have to believe this because tomorrow I have another match, so I have to be ready for tomorrow. No matter what happened today, I have to do my job tomorrow.”
In response to this, Murray told the media, “He probably gained some confidence from that and started playing better. He played a good tie-break, played aggressive.”
In September 2009, the two contestants encountered each other in the fourth round robin at the Davis Cup. Murray rallied past the Pole in a three sets match, 6-3, 6-4, 6-3. The young Polish sustained his winning momentum the entire time and fired powerful
serves to dominate.
The world number three, Murray, displayed remarkable improvement in his game plan by securing a gold medal in London 2012 Olympics. He was the finalist against the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer and was unable to take over the more experienced contender. At
the US Open Grand Slam, Murray’s might immoveable. He edged past his stronger rivals like the Serbian number one, Novak Djokovic.
The right-hander British challenger’s pace considerably declined down after securing his last Grand Slam of the year at the hard courts of New York.  Before the Paribas Masters, he lost at the hands of the lower ranked Canadian, Milos Raonic in the semi-final
round. The reigning world number one, Djokovic avenged his former loss from the young Scot at the Shanghai Rolex Masters, a 1000-point ATP event.
The right-hander British challenger made a mistake when he was unable to secure a breakthrough in the opening set. He was able cash on his rival’s serve in the 11th game and his come became in effective. This was surely a shocker for Murray. He promised
his fans that he would certainly make sure that he would put forward a decent battle at the Barclays ATP World Tour finals in 02, London.
The 6 ft 8”, Janowicz, rallied beyond several higher ranked professionals in the next tournaments. He prevailed over Janko Tipsarevic, Gilles Simon but in the end lost at the hands of the Spanish competitor, David Ferrer in the final round.
