Biggs looking to have bigger impact
Bath winger Tom Biggs says he is looking to have a big impact at the club this season when he is given a chance.
Biggs wants to mirror the impact that legendary Bath winger Joe Maddock had during his time at the club. However, Bath is not lacking for quality players and it may be a while before Biggs is given an extended run in the side.
Biggs said: "There’s pressure on everyone in sport and I think that’s why we play it, because we love the pressure. And I’m no different. There is pressure on me to score tries. Joe was a fantastic player for Bath and a crowd favourite, and that’s something I want to be."
After spending time on loan with Leeds in previous seasons, it seems that Biggs now wants to settle down at Bath and fulfil the potential that everyone has always told him he has.
Biggs has a number of qualities that will help him break into the first team at Bath this season. However, he will have to compete with the likes of Matt Banahan and Jacques Boussuge for a starting place.
Number of qualities
Bath will be very happy that they have a very ambitious player on their books. Biggs has shown that he has an energy and enthusiasm that he wants to spread across the rest of Bath's team. Players need to have ambition because it gives them something to strive for when they are given a chance.
Biggs is very quick, which is why he plays in a wide position. His pace allows him to get down the line very quickly while the bigger players at Bath hustle to win the ball back. He's also quick enough to be able to dodge big tackles coming from huge players.
His agility is just as good as Banahan's, who is the favoured winger of the Bath team. Agility is very important for a winger because it allows a player to change direction very quickly and exploit the smallest gap in the opposition defence.
Top quality
Bath has a number of top quality wingers in the playing squad, which makes Biggs' chances of a first team slot more difficult. Banahan and Boussuge are the two players that the club will play on the wings for the majority of this season.
However, Biggs will have the chance to try and change that way of thinking every day in training and when he is given a chance in a match situation. Only then can he replace one of these players for a regular place in the team.
He added: "After three pre-season games I feel quite comfortable with the systems that Bath play, so it’s not been too difficult settling in. The club showed great commitment to me. They’re fully committed to me and I’m fully committed to them."
Betting advice
Biggs is not the number one winger at Bath so don't waste a bet by backing him to be top scorer at the club by the end of the season. The much better option is to take things on a match by match basis.
When Biggs starts a game or comes on then he will have a great chance of scoring a try for Bath. However, betting in play will mean slightly reduced odds but it will be much better than gambling on Biggs to feature in a game when there's no guarantee that he'll even be in the match day squad.
The whole issue just goes to highlight the quality of the Bath squad. The club has a great chance to win the league this year.
