Newcastle United’s new midfield signing Gael Bigirimana believes it is a ‘privilege’ to put on the club’s jersey and feels honoured to have joined the Magpies.
Bigirimana became http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew’s second signing of the summer as he arrived from Coventry City for £1 million on a five-year deal. The defensive midfielder is highly rated by Pardew and is expected to feature regularly in Newcastle’s games for the coming
season, despite his age.
The 18-year old Burundi-born player joined Coventry at the age of 11 and quickly rose through the ranks. Bigirimana managed 28 senior appearances for the club last season and was one of their most important players. He managed to stand out and get noticed,
despite the fact that his club got relegated.
He started off his career as a centre-half but was later deployed as a defensive midfielder. He is likened to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Essien-c25294 by many, with his ability to dictate things in the centre of the park, read the oppositions attacks and intercept the ball at key
moments. His greatest ability perhaps lies in the fact that he is able to play with a discipline that is rare to see in players of such a young age.
Pardew rates him highly and has even warned some of his players that they will be competing with the youngster for a first team spot.
The 18-year old has stood out in Newcastle’s pre-season campaign and was exceptional in their 1-0 win over French club Monaco on Monday.
Speaking to an English newspaper, Bigirimana said:
“It’s just amazing playing in a black-and-white shirt.”
“It’s an honour to put that kit on – Newcastle is a big club, and I’m just privileged to wear the shirt. I’m just full of joy – I’m having a great time in my life.”
“I’m just living the dream. I’m just grateful to Newcastle for giving me this opportunity.”
The player made his debut in the 1-0 loss to Chemnitzer before Newcastle’s win against Monaco. He is considered to be a vital addition to the squad, and is expected to partner Cheick Tiote in midfield for the Toon next season.
The Magpies start their Premier League campaign with a home game against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, the 18th of August 2012.
