Gael Bigirimana has spoken about how shocked he was when he learnt that Newcastle United were interested in signing him from Coventry City.
The young defensive midfielder revealed his shock when he came to know that Newcastle United were interested in signing him earlier this month. The 18-year old midfielder was a surprise signing by manager Alan Pardew, considering his age. The manager is
however full of praise for the young player and has gone as far as to say that Bigirimana will be providing stiff competition to his teammates for a first team spot.
Bigirimana impressed during his time at Coventry and stood out with a series of solid performances in midfield. up opposition attack. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why Pardew was so quick to sign the midfielder.
The 18-year old joined the Magpies on a five-year deal earlier this month, and speaking to the English press, he admitted to being shocked when Newcastle came calling. He said:
"When I found out it was me they were interested in, it was a surprise.”
"I'm just privileged to be here at Newcastle and grateful to the club."
Bigirimana was also full of praise for his former club and appreciated the chance they had given to him.
"I respect Coventry, but joining Newcastle is something that fits in with the journey.”
"Coventry is like my family - the club, the city, one big family. It has a special place in my heart."
