Question:

Bigpond's Wireless Mobile Broadband?

I was just wondering if anybody knew if any price or usage changes on Bigpond's Wireless Mobile Broadband will occur in the near future.

Lately brands like Vodaphone are offering a maximum of 5GB a month for like $39. When Bigpond's maximum usage is 3GB and they charge over $100 monthly!

This is the only broadband that is available in my area and it is costing a fortune.

Also does telstra ever extend the margin of coverage for ADSL from their exchange's? I would much rather be on an ADSL plan but im told its unavailable in my area.

Thanks for the help =D

  1. Telstra are notorious for sucking people into plans that seem cheap on the surface but charge enormous fees for excess usage. If you want some free advice, stay away from Telstra at all costs.

IMHO, the best mobile Internet plan currently available to you is the Vodafone one you mentioned. $39 for 5GB is a very good deal.

All of the major carriers and ISPs have pages on their web sites that allow you to enter your phone number and they will tell you:

    1) Whether or not they can offer you an ADSL or ADLS2+ service

    2) If they can't, whether or not there are plans to make it available in the near future and what the ETA is.

If you can get it, I strongly recommend getting ADSL2+. It is almost always both cheaper and faster than ADSL1 (in Australia at least).

The cheapest Australian ADSL2+ provider I know of is called Exetel: http://www.exetel.com.au

Their customer service is pretty poor (i.e. their customer support line is just a fancy voice mail system that allows you to log faults with them - No asking questions to live people) but I guess that's how they keep their costs down and they are very cheap.

    Hope this helps.
