Question:

Bike Touring Routes?

Hello,

I am trying to plan a bike tour from the East coast of the USA to the West coast ending somewhere in mid-California. I found an awesome website

http://www.adventurecycling.org/store/index.cfm/category/1/route-maps.cfm

Their maps are quite expensive, but i was wondering if there is anywhere i might be able to download the route data for the trans America Express Route? I can't seen to find the route i can import into google earth, or typed directions or any detailed maps anywhere.

Any help would greatly be appreciated :)

  1. Tim,

I have done the Pacific Coast route but not the one you are planning. Not sure what your budget is but you might think about getting one of the new Garmin cycling GPS computers. The monochrome one is quite affordable. The ACA allows you to download the gps route for free. You can plan stopping points on your route prior to and make deviations easily during without a separate computer. Plus the bike computer will serve you for years afterward and will work also in your car. I plan on buy the Edge 605 for my next multi-day trip this fall. I am saving for a trip to Europe next year and will buy the SD card with Europe maps before I go.
